IVECO, a brand of the Iveco Group that designs, manufactures and markets a wide range of light commercial vehicles and medium and heavy industrial vehicles, and Tallano, a French company pioneering the fight against fine particles from vehicle braking, announce the signing of a memorandum of understanding to test the TAMIC® system, developed by Tallano, on IVECO heavy goods vehicles in France. This commitment follows initial successful tests conducted in 2024 with the City of Paris on Eurocargo CNG (compressed natural gas) vehicles equipped with refuse collection bins.

Significant challenges for society

While engines have evolved considerably thanks to successive Euro standards and now drastically reduce exhaust emissions, fine particles outside the exhaust, generated by wear and tear on brakes, tyres and road surfaces, constitute a growing share of air pollution linked to road traffic. To meet this challenge, Tallano has designed the TAMIC® system, a patented and innovative solution that captures up to 70% of emissions from braking. Installed as close as possible to the braking components, this on-board device safely sucks up, filters and stores the particles generated.

IVECO, which has been deeply committed to environmental issues for many years with its range of alternative energy vehicles (biomethane, electricity and HVO), is confirming its commitment alongside Tallano to test this innovative solution designed to improve air quality in the long term. Drawing on its technical expertise, in partnership with integrator System Truck, IVECO is supporting this initiative among local authorities and transport companies in the best possible conditions, to assist them in their efforts to reduce pollutant emissions and achieve ecological transition.

Promising results during an initial pilot phase

In 2024, the City of Paris paved the way for this innovation by testing the TAMIC® system on its first vehicle: a 16-tonne CNG Eurocargo equipped with a household waste skip. This pilot phase validated the technical integration of the solution and its performance in real-world conditions and collected encouraging data on particle capture. The results achieved, reaching the target of 70% dust capture, confirm the potential of the device, while highlighting the need for larger-scale trials. At its meeting on June 6, 2025, the Council of Paris has approved the continuation of the deployment by equipment of three new household waste collection bins from 2025 to 2026.

Household waste bins: an ideal laboratory for breakthrough innovation

Particularly solicited, performing numerous braking cycles in urban environments, the garbage bins represent a relevant field of experimentation to sustainably improve air quality. These new experiments will help to refine the performance of the solution, evaluate its long-term reliability and anticipate the implementation of the future Euro VII regulation, which will include requirements related to non-exhaust particulate emissions. Through this collaboration, IVECO and Tallano Technologies affirm their willingness to jointly innovate in order to support local authorities and transport companies in their ecological transition and contribute to improving air quality in cities.
